MT-03 Cargo Forces & Accelerations


Product Description

It is a spreadsheet to calculate the forces and accelerations on a Cargo onboard a vessel (calculated at CoG of vessel)

Very useful in Marine Operations. These forces and accelerations can further be used to design the seafastening for the cargo.
It calculates both Motion Forces and the Wind Loads
The Motion Forces are calculated in accordance with Nobledenton Guidelines for Marine Operations, Rev 5 (June 2013).
The Wind Loads are calculated as per ABS MODU Rules, 2011. Different Height coefficients are applied to different zones of the cargo depending on its height.

Q. Is it valid for multiple cargo?

A. The app can be used only for one cargo at a time. You can create a separate workbook for each cargo if there are multiple cargoes

Q. What about the self moment of inertia of the cargo?

A. Self-moment of inertia of the cargo has been ignored, and has been considered insignificant. Thus, it is for cargo which are sized small compared to the vessel. For cargo comparable to the vessel in size, this app is not recommended, and a detailed motions analysis is advised

Q. What point of the Cargo are the results reported at?

A. The results are reported at the Center of Gravity of the cargo.

Q. Why are the distances of Cargo COG being asked from midship, and not the LCF, as the LCF is the actual center of floatation?

A. For simplification, the LCF is assumed at Midship longitudinally and centerline transversely. If the user has the location of LCF, then the user can use the location of LCF instead of the midship location.
