Description

Purpose

This Excel App can calculate the shear flow around a ship’s cross section due to hull girder vertical shear force
With a known shear force, the maximum shear flow of the cross section can be determined

Instructions
The user has to provide all the inputs highlighted in blue.
Once all inputs are provided, the spreadsheet will evaluate the maximum shear force

Limitations
Applicable for open cross sections
Cross Section is composed of line segments as shown in the figure
Each Line segment has a constant plate thickness
Shear Force to be applied at the symmetry axis in z-direction according to the figure on the right

    I feel it is a little too limited in that it appears (and from my testing) can only do 3 cells, fixed number of nodes and elements, and a fixed hull section configuration, albeit one that would cover the basic container ship design.

    I appreciate within the Excel scenario, it is not easy or even feasible to accommodate more generic configurations of cells, elements and nodes.

    However due to a requirement from Class involving completely different hull section configurations, we developed an inhouse Python based program which can do unlimited cells, elements / nodes, but for obvious reasons, it is very difficult to verify results during the implementation stage, hence we used your program and your test case to verify and got reasonable agreement, not exact but reasonable agreement, so it was very useful from that perspective, and will continue to be in testing.
