Description

What does this Excel Sheet do?

This Excel sheet helps you evaluate the key parameters for Longitudinal Strength Computation for ships under 90 m at a specific section along the length of a Ship
Maximum Wave Bending Moment
Maximum Wave Shear Force
Minimum Required Section Modulus
Minimum Required Moment of Inertia
The required values can then be compared against the actual calculated ones to assess the suitability of the vessel

How to use this Excel Sheet
The user is asked for inputs of vessel geometry (dimensions, displacement etc)
The longitudinal strength can be evaluated at any location along the length of the vessel. The user has to enter the location under consideration
Inputs are also required from the actual Section Modulus and Moment of Inertia calculations for the section of the vessel at the location under consideration
Maximum Still Water Bending Moment and Shear Force
Actual Section Modulus and Moment of Inertia of the section under consideration
First moment of area about neutral axis
Side Shell Plating Thickness
Once all inputs are provided, the spreadsheet will calculate the maximum Wave Bending Moment and Wave Shear Forces
The total bending moment and shear force are then used to check the Section Modulus and Shear Stress
All inputs are in blue cells

Limitations
This sheet is applicable only for vessels without continuous longitudinal bhds
